Text tools

Private: nothing leaves your browser

Counting, cleaning and reshaping text without opening a spreadsheet. Check the length of an essay or a social post, switch between camelCase and snake_case, strip duplicate lines out of a list, sort it, or find and replace across the whole thing. Results update as you type.

About these tools

These are the jobs that are trivial in principle and annoying in practice. Word and character limits matter for essays, meta descriptions and social posts, and doing it by hand or in a word processor is slower than pasting it here.

Nothing you paste is sent anywhere or saved, which matters more than it sounds for text tools: drafts, client copy and internal notes are exactly the sort of thing people paste into a random website without thinking.

These chain together more often than not. A list pasted out of a spreadsheet usually wants Remove Duplicate Lines and then Sort Lines, which puts item2 before item10 rather than ordering it as plain text. Turning a headline into a URL path is Text to Slug. Throughout all of them a blank line counts as a line, kept and sorted like any other, unless you tick the switch that strips them: a text tool that silently reflows your text is worse than one that does nothing.
