About WebTools

WebTools is a growing collection of small, single-purpose tools: format some JSON, merge a couple of PDFs, compress an image, count the words in an essay, work out an EMI. Each one lives on its own page, does one job, and gets out of your way.

Why it exists

Most free online tools are worse than they need to be. You arrive wanting to do one simple thing and you are met with a signup wall, a queue, a progress bar while your file is uploaded to somebody's server, a watermark on the result, and enough ads that the tool itself is hard to find. The job usually takes a fraction of a second. The experience takes minutes.

Browsers can do almost all of this work themselves now. Reading a PDF, re-encoding an image, hashing a string, formatting JSON: none of it needs a server. So these tools do it locally.

What that means for you

Your files never leave your device. There is no upload, so there is no waiting and no copy of your document sitting in someone else's storage. There is no account, no email and no limit on how often you use anything. Pages are built to load in well under a second, and most of them keep working if you lose your connection.

How it is paid for

Advertising, kept deliberately minimal. Ads appear below or beside a tool, never above it or inside it, and never as a pop-up, an interstitial or anything that covers what you came for. If an ad ever gets in the way of using a tool, that is a bug and we would like to hear about it.
